Athletic journo: This is what WC winner’s agent told me about potential West Ham move

West Ham are in a precarious position right now when it comes to transfers, and it essentially boils down to whether they should stick or twist in the upcoming January transfer window.

Evidently, things have not been good enough on the pitch, to the extent that David Moyes has been drafted in to replace Manuel Pellegrini with the club just one point above the drop zone.

The natural reaction in the situation is to look for extra bodies who might be able to dig the club out of the hole that they are currently in, but let’s not forget that it was a barrage of misjudged recruitment that has contributed to this issue in the first place.

One name that has been bandied around is that of World Cup winner Olivier Giroud, with the Frenchman understood to be a target of the new manager, as per The Sun.

And a conversation between The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas and the player’s agent has sought neither to confirm nor deny the rumour.

Writing in a Q&A for the outlet, he said: “I’ve been in contact with Giroud’s agent and he said he won’t comment on rumours.”

Now, obviously, this does little to suggest there are any irons in the fire, but at the very least, if there was absolutely nothing happening, you might expect an agent to try and put the kibosh on gossip like this.

Instead, by leaving things open ended and ambiguous, the representative could well be saying in a round about sort of way that this one does have legs after all.

Only time will tell, but at a bare minimum, this could one story to keep an eye on between now and the end of the window.
