Aston Villa respond to new West Ham United bid for Jhon Duran as negotiations continue

Aston Villa have rejected West Ham United’s improved transfer offer for Jhon Duran this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via X on Thursday (25 July) that the Hammers’ £32million offer which included a sell-on clause and Lewis Ordford has been thrown out of Villa Park as it doesn’t meet their valuation.

Unai Emery’s side are looking for a fee of £40million before allowing the Colombian striker to depart this summer and negotiations will continue so that a deal can be struck between the two clubs.

Duran’s stance on the move has been clear throughout this transfer saga and the 20-year-old still wants to make the summer move to the London Stadium.

Will West Ham United sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window?

Aston Villa don’t seem ready to budge on their valuation of Duran and that has put the Hammers in a very difficult position this summer as they will not want to overspend despite their need for a new number nine.

Julen Lopetegui has been eager to bolster his striking options ever since he arrived in East London and while several names have been linked with the Irons, the Villa forward has always been the preferred target.

Now Tim Steidten, Lopetegui and those above them both at the London Stadium have to decide just how much they’re willing to pay to get their man as Villa have made their stance incredibly clear at this moment.

£40million may not be a huge step up from £32million, but it is a lot of money to spend on a player who has only scored a handful of Premier League goals in the entirety of his playing career.

It will be interesting to see what West Ham do next as they desperately need a new striker before the Premier League campaign gets back underway.
