Arsenal player ‘eager to quit’ as West Ham United update shared

West Ham United “like” Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney as he looks set for the Arsenal exit, according to TBR Football.

The online source reported on 16 January that with the Irons, Brentford, Leicester City and Celtic all keen on the left-sided defender, Tierney is eager to return to the latter at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Tierney’s exit from Emirates Stadium looks inevitable, with the Scot out of contract at season’s end, but he could make a move before 3 February with the Hammers having a long-term interest in the left-back.

Kieran Tierney transfer would be handy addition for West Ham

Although the Irons have much more pressing needs in the transfer market at the moment – namely a striker who isn’t either injured or well beyond their peak – Tierney would still be a solid signing.

Capable of playing both at left-back and in central defence, Tierney would provide much-needed depth for Graham Potter at the back, as he looks to reshape a squad strangely assembled by Tim Steidten.

Steidten’s summertime transfer policy has left the Hammers with an aging team containing holes in several positions, albeit the left side of their defence isn’t necessarily a problem just yet.

While Aaron Cresswell and Emerson Palmieri are now aged 35 and 30 respectively, Potter has been keen to use 19-year-old Ollie Scarles since taking charge, starting him against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

Tierney would undoubtedly be a welcome addition to a Hammers side whipping goals at will before Potter’s appointment, but the 49-year-old’s priority before 3 February will be to strengthen up front.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have also been given a boost in their ambitious bid to sign an out-of-form Premier League star.
