Arsenal could hijack West Ham deal for Ferguson as personal terms agreed

West Ham are nervous that Arsenal could look to hijack their deal for Evan Ferguson, according to Jacob Steinberg.

The Guardian’s Steinberg wrote via X on Sunday (2 February) that Ferguson has given the green light to join the Hammers on loan pending a medical, after the East London outfit agreed a deal with Brighton [via Dharmesh Sheth, 2 February].

Graham Potter’s side are fearful that Arsenal could make a late hijack. However, this is thought to be unlikely as the Gunners are looking to buy a striker, rather than loan one, with the Hammers lining up two more late signings after booking a medical for Ferguson [via Dharmesh Sheth, 2 February].

West Ham to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson?

Ferguson would be a fantastic addition at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have struggled with injury issues in forward areas this season. Therefore, bringing in a new frontman would have been a priority for Potter in the winter transfer window – with Liam Delap also still a target [via the Sunday Mirror, page 69, 2 February].

And while it has taken some time, it looks as though the club have finally got their man.

Potter was the manager who handed Ferguson his Premier League debut. Therefore, the relationship between the pair is likely to be positive, and West Ham fans will hope this reunion proves fruitful at the London Stadium.

While Arsenal continue to lurk in the background, with the Gunners in need of a striker on a permanent deal, it is hard to see Mikel Arteta’s side hijacking a loan agreement unless they get too desperate, by which point the paperwork should be signed between West Ham, Brighton and Ferguson.

And with a medical booked, it looks as though it might be a matter of hours before Ferguson is announced as a West Ham player until the end of the season.
