Angel Gomes agrees brand-new transfer after West Ham talks

Angel Gomes finally looks set to complete a summer transfer after West Ham links.

The England international is set to agree a move away from Lille after letting his contract run down with the Ligue 1 side.

After a positive spell in France, the 24-year-old has caught the attention of various Premier League and European sides moving into the summer.

This has seen Graham Potter show a keen interest in the ex-Manchester United man, who finally appears to have chosen his next destination.

There is no doubt that the midfielder would be an excellent signing for the Irons, as the former Brighton head coach looks to build a side in his image.

Having the Englishman at the base of midfield alongside the likes of Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse could prove to be excellent.

The outbound Lille star has excellent ability on the ball and could have made a return to the Premier League to showcase his talents.

This looked likely to see West Ham beat Tottenham to the signing of Gomes, who has also been linked with a North London switch in recent months.

With that being said, it now appears that the midfielder has opted instead to agree a three-year deal with French side Marseille as a free agent [Alex Crook, 6 June].

This has seen the ex-Boavista loanee reject a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after also holding talks over a London Stadium switch.

West Ham to miss out on Gomes signing

It will come as a huge blow to Potter and his plans moving forward to have been snubbed by the midfielder at this stage.

There were thoughts that the signing of Gomes could transform the way that the Irons play, with his unique skillset in the centre of the park.

As a result of missing out, other options must now be assessed, especially after losing Carlos Soler at the end of his loan spell from PSG.
