Amara Nallo quits West Ham United, image shows him with shirt of new club

A fresh image reveals Amara Nallo holding a Liverpool shirt following the youth prospect’s move from West Ham United.

Taking to his personal Instagram (23 August), the 16-year-old former Hammers academy product showed off his new number 5 shirt after he joined the Liverpool academy.

Per ExWHUEmployee (24 August), the Hammers are disappointed to see Nallo depart the club as he was highly regarded among the academy staff.

New pastures, same opportunities?

While you can’t blame someone for turning down the chance to join an established footballing institution like Liverpool, departing West Ham now may prove costly to Nallo.

Liverpool’s academy is one of the country’s best and Nallo’s progression up the ranks would be more difficult in Merseyside than in Stratford.

That being said, while many Hammers fans may understandably be unfamiliar with the youngster, he possesses sought-after defensive abilities and could be developed at Liverpool if he maintains his high standards.

West Ham United

Former Hammers forward and current West Ham under-16 coach Carlton Cole expects big things in Nallo’s future while his on-trend ability to play the ball out the back calmly gives him the blueprint of a top defender.

As quoted by Metro (31 July), Cole said: “‘I would describe Amara as a Rolls Royce of a centre-back. He has a great left foot and is elegant when he moves with the ball.

“He can play the ball with both feet and has been working on his heading as well. He’s a player who has a high ceiling.”

A young, two-footed “Rolls Royce” is very hard to come by, so West Ham’s disappointment in seeing him depart is understandable. While Nallo seems happy to have made the switch, he will hope that the path is there to continue or accelerate his development.
