West Ham United have serious work to do if they are to improve on a dismal Premier League season.

The Hammers finished the season in 14th, but did end the season on a high after defeating Ipswich Town 3-1 at Portman Road.

Several players will leave the London Stadium this summer, as the Irons plan a significant squad overhaul in the coming weeks and months.

Areola reacts to West Ham player departure

It is that time of year when players move on to pastures new, with a host of players departing West Ham.

Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal are two other names who can leave East London with their head held high after successful stints with the Hammers.

While their contributions have been significant, there comes a time when fresh faces are needed, and the Irons are certainly in need of young talent.

Another player who will exit the London club after a seven-year stint is Lukasz Fabianski, whose contract expires this summer.

The former Arsenal shot-stopper made over 300 appearances for West Ham, including several in the Europa League.

As the 40-year-old departs the London Stadium, his teammate Areola shared a parting message on his Instagram story (26 May).

The Frenchman reposted Fabianski's farewell post with the word "legend" included.

Graham Potter must invest in quality new goalkeeper

With Fabianski departing, that leaves Areola and Wes Foderingham as options in between the sticks for Graham Potter.

That means that the 50-year-old will need to add reinforcements in goal, with quality needed.

Areola has endured a difficult campaign, being at fault for several goals, while Foderingham returns from his loan at Sheffield United.

Both players are over 30, meaning the Hammers must target youth as they look to build a more exciting side.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has previously been linked with a switch and is surely deserving of the number one jersey.

Another player who has been touted with an exit from his club is Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, although Newcastle United are strong admirers.

Whatever happens, expect West Ham to add a more youthful option in goal this summer.
