Alpha Toure opens up on West Ham transfer – ‘it’s a dream’

Alpha Toure has spoken about a potential move to West Ham.

The FC Metz midfielder was linked with a move to the Hammers in the winter transfer window, but nothing materialised.

West Ham reportedly made a £9million bid for Toure, but the Ligue 1 club were not willing to sell due to the fact that they are in a relegation battle.

Now, the 20-year-old has revealed his thoughts about a switch to the London Stadium to join Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side.

What did Toure say about West Ham move?

Toure has admitted that while it is a dream to play in the Premier League, he is currently focused on his current club, and helping them to achieve their ambitions.

In an interview with Africa Foot, the player specifically mentioned the Irons as well as Turkish outfit Besiktas, who also wanted to sign him.

He said: “It’s always flattering when clubs like West Ham or Beşiktas are interested in me. It shows I still have a lot of work to do.

“But I’m under contract with Metz and I’m very focused on my season. I leave that to my representatives (my family) and the club.

“I’m focused on the pitch. As long as I’m wearing the Metz jersey, I’ll give 100%.

“The Premier League is a very intense league, with a lot of pace and physicality. It’s a dream for many players, but one thing at a time.”

Why Toure would be a great addition for West Ham

Toure is a Senegalese left-footed defensive midfielder who joined the French outfit in 2024 from the renowned Generation Foot academy in his home country.

That outfit has produced brilliant top-flight exports such as Sadio Mane, Ismaila Sarr and former Hammers ace Diafra Sakho, in the past.

The E20 target is a versatile player as he is also capable of playing in a more advanced role or as a centre-back.

Toure boasts an 87.2 per cent pass accuracy and makes 0.45 key passes per game, per Sofascore, showing that he is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Defensively, he would add a much-needed steel to Nuno’s side, as he makes 4.16 recoveries, 2.44 tackles and wins 5.52 duels per game, as the above graphic shows.

Given that he seems keen to move to England, it is a no-brainer for the East London outfit, but they need to make sure that they stay in the top-flight first, with 12 matches left to play.

If they can secure their status as an elite-level club, then surely the player will still be interested in a move in the summer transfer window.

If they go down to the Championship, then he may not be interested in making the move anymore, as it would be a downgrade in the short term.
