Ally McCoist green signal given as West Ham United transfer news emerges
Ally McCoist has backed Niclas Fullkrug to thrive in the Premier League, with him now sealing a permanent transfer to West Ham.
The Hammers were eyeing a striker this summer and secured the services of the Germany international.
The 31-year-old arrives at the London Stadium for a fee in the region of £27.5million, according to Sky Sports.
McCoist told talkSPORT: “I have no doubt he would score goals in the top-flight in England. I like him.
“I don’t like using the term old-fashioned centre-forward. But he’s a proper centre-forward.
“He brings people into play, can go in behind, powerful, attacks things in the box. I think he’d be a tremendous signing for somebody.”
West Ham may continue to play a direct brand of football under Julen Lopetegui
The signing of Fullkrug could potentially lead to a shift in Julen Lopetegui’s preferred style of play, moving towards a more direct approach.
The Germany international, known for his aerial prowess and physical presence, could encourage the team to play more long balls and crosses into the box.
This might disappoint fans who have become accustomed to Lopetegui’s possession-based, intricate style of football.
However, if Lopetegui can successfully deploy the 31-year-old as a false nine, allowing other players to run in behind him, it could add a new dimension to West Ham’s attack.
This would require Fullkrug to drop deep, drawing defenders out of position and creating space for his teammates to exploit.

By doing this, Lopetegui could maintain the team’s fluidity and unpredictability, potentially pleasing the fans.
In other West Ham news, Arsenal and Newcastle have made late moves to hijack Spurs’ deal to secure the services of a Hammers player this summer.
