Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to West Ham United transfer update emerges before August 30

West Ham United rumours over signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before the August 30 deadline are “wide of the mark”, according to Sean Whetstone.

The Hammers insider shared via his West Ham Football X account that the Besiktas midfielder had been offered as an option to Julen Lopetegui.

However, it is said that due to having no squad slots or money, a deal isn’t likely to occur.

West Ham United should stay away from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

There’s no denying that Oxlade-Chamberlain is a footballer with bags of talent. He has spent the vast majority of his career in the Premier League with both Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, due to his poor injury record, the midfielder failed to live up to the promise he first showed at the start of his career.

When fit, the 31-year-old could easily hold his own among some of the best players in the top flight, however, his history of injuries should be a major red flag for any potential suitors [TBR Football, 26 August].

Hence why, it wouldn’t make much sense for the Hammers to spend whatever remaining money that they have left on yet another older player who they can’t guarantee would be available week-in and week-out.

Whilst his versatility to play in both midfield and on either flank would be welcome among the Hammers’ squad, it still feels like a move for someone such as Carlos Soler [The Guardian, 27 August] makes much more sense.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made a £16.6million bid for Richard Rios.
