Aleix Garcia arrives to undergo medical as West Ham United transfer update emerges

West Ham United target Aleix Garcia is preparing for a medical ahead of a move to Bayer Leverkusen, according to Rheinische Post.

A deal for the Spaniard has been agreed and the Bundesliga champions are awaiting the results of an “obligatory medical check”.

The Hammers were interested but after missing out on European qualification, the midfielder opted to join Leverkusen.

The “prospect” of working with Xabi Alonso and playing in the Champions League were the enticing factors for the 26-year-old to reject West Ham.

The German outlet has reported (14 June, page C5) that a fee worth up to £16.8 million was enough to secure the deal this summer.

West Ham miss out on Aleix Garcia

The Hammers have many irons in the fire this summer as they look to revolutionise their squad under Julen Lopetegui this season.

The new head coach will want to put his stamp on the squad after he took over from the long-standing David Moyes earlier this summer.

Tim Steidten is looking to have a positive impact after taking complete charge of transfers which has seen him show interest in various Brazilian talents.

A move for Garcia felt more obvious after a terrific season with Girona in La Liga which saw them qualify for the Champions League.

He certainly would have been a great addition to the squad at the London Stadium with him adding a coolness on the ball which would have allowed West Ham to control the midfield regularly.

The Spaniard is great with the ball at his feet and has an excellent eye for a pass whether that be short or longer range.

It is frustrating to miss out on him but given Bayer Leverkusen’s record this season, this news does not come as a surprise.
