Alan Shearer makes Declan Rice transfer claim after what happened in Arsenal v West Ham United

Declan Rice showed why Arsenal worked hard to sign him from West Ham with his recent display against his former club, according to Alan Shearer.

The midfielder, who joined the Gunners from the Hammers last summer, bagged a goal and two assists in the win on Sunday (11 February).

The North London club ran out 6-0 winners in the Premier League encounter at the London Stadium, with William Saliba, Gabriel, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka (two) also on target.

Naming the midfielder in his Premier League Team of the Week, Shearer noted: “Declan Rice showed just why Arsenal worked so hard to sign him from West Ham United last summer as he delivered a devastating display for the Gunners against his former club on Sunday.

“The midfielder set up two goals before scoring himself as Arsenal triumphed 6-0 at the London Stadium. Unstoppable against his former club, setting up two goals before scoring himself.”

West Ham torn apart by Arsenal

Rice did finally enjoy himself against his former club, having not been so successful in his previous clashes with the Hammers.

This time around was different, with the England international pulling the strings in midfield as the Gunners thrashed their London rivals.

Many West Ham supporters did show their appreciation for their former skipper, but others chose to vent their anger at his decision to not only leave but join a close rival.

Rice has clearly moved on from his stunning spell in East London, with the midfielder now shining under Mikel Arteta, having previously done so for David Moyes.

It was a very dark day for the Hammers boss, who will want to move on as soon as possible in order to get the season back on track.

Up next for Moyes and his men is an away trip to Nottingham Forest, with the City Ground hosting that Premier League clash on Saturday (17 February).
