Ajax accept West Ham bid for Nicolas Tagliafico

Ajax have accepted a £10million bid from West Ham for left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on August 31 [page 57] that the Irons have made a last-ditch bid to sign the 28-year-old Argentina international.

David Moyes already has Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku as left-back options but Masuaku is prone to injuries while Moyes also played with Cresswell in a back-three at times last season.

Do we need him?

If we’re spending £10million on singing a third left-back, then surely Moyes must have the money to sign a new central midfielder or a striker?

We are short in certain areas of the squad but one of those areas isn’t at left-back.

While we can understand the need for a new player in that position, we feel that it should not be a priority when Moyes really needs a new centre-forward before the summer transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Tagliafico, however, is a very good left-back and is someone who would definitely help upgrade this squad.

The Ajax full-back has been capped 33 times by Argentina, who we won the Copa America with earlier this summer.

The former Independiente ace is also experienced at playing top-fight football with Ajax in the Netherlands and playing for them in the Champions League.

He would not be a bad signing, especially for £10million.

But you cannot help but feel that £10million would be better off spent on another area of Moyes’ squad.

Kurt Zouma and Nikola Vlasic, who arrived at the London Stadium earlier on deadline day, have already been late arrivals at the club.

Is another one on the cards?

In other West Ham news, the Irons are in pursuit of signing this Erling Haaland-esque centre-forward.
