AC Milan want to sign £26.5m Said Benrahma from West Ham United, could offer Alexis Saelemaekers in exchange

Reigning Serie A champions AC Milan want to sign Said Benrahma from West Ham this summer, with a £26.5m price tag on his head according to Serie B News.

Benrahma has been one of the outstanding performers in the Hammers side this season, but there have been lingering doubts about his relationship with David Moyes and he has often been linked with a move away from the club.

And now the Italian giants have been tipped to try and sign the Algerian playmaker this summer and have been quoted a fee of between €25-30m (£22-26.5m), but they could look to offer Belgian winger Alexis Saelemaekers in exchange to lower that fee.

That fee could be lowered even further however if West Ham are relegated to the Championship, with the report stating that the club would be forced to sell their best players should that occur.

Must keep

Benrahma is an incredibly talented player capable of playing in several positions, and his creativity is unmatched by anyone else in the squad.

His dribbling ability, eye for a pass and ability to score goals consistently make him stand out, but it goes completely against what David Moyes usually wants from his team and so it’s no surprise that he is not a guaranteed starter.

His qualities would be better appreciated by a different manager in a stronger team, and he would likely be tempted by the move. But West Ham can’t afford to lose him.

After struggling to bring in quality attacking talent in recent windows, losing one of our best players would be a big issue. A swap deal makes no sense for the Hammers either, because if Milan don’t deem Saelemaekers good enough for them then he shouldn’t be seen as good enough for us either.

If they want to stump up big money then maybe a deal could be worked out, but a replacement must be found first and even then it would have to be a really good one.
