Aaron Wan-Bissaka begins West Ham medical after Manchester United transfer delay

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has started his medical at West Ham United on 12 August ahead of his move from Manchester United, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist reported on X that Wan-Bissaka had started his tests, which had originally been scheduled to begin the day prior on Sunday 11 August.

Wan-Bissaka’s original medical was delayed due to exit terms from Old Trafford [Sheth, 11 August], with Manchester United set to bring Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt the other way.

West Ham finally ready to finalise Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer

Right-back is an area which Julen Lopetegui has sought to strengthen since being appointed at the London Stadium, and Wan-Bissaka has seemingly been a first-choice target for much of that time.

The deal for Wan-Bissaka opening up an avenue for Manchester United to sign Mazraoui is a fitting end to this saga for both sides, with the Hammers having previously been in negotiations for the Moroccan [HITC, 23 July].

However, attention quickly turned back to Wan-Bissaka after a deal for Mazraoui fell through, and they have been able to barter the Red Devils down to £15million [Sean Whetstone, 10 August].

Adding Wan-Bissaka to a backline which has already been significantly bolstered this summer will give Lopetegui a new-look defence which could be a game-changer for their Premier League hopes.

The Irons conceded a whopping 74 goals last season, but with Wan-Bissaka, Max Kilman, and recent Nice loanee Jean-Clair Todibo all in tow, Hammers fans will be confident of cutting that total in half.

In other West Ham news, one exit from the London Stadium has been cast into doubt after complications with the player’s medical.
