Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Ogbonna contract twist emerges at West Ham amid David Moyes speculation
West Ham United defenders Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Ogbonna are both open to extending their contracts at the London Stadium, according to the Evening Standard.
The outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (1 May) that both veteran defenders whose current deals expire at the end of the season have been left in a contract limbo as speculation continues around David Moyes’ future.
Suggestions that Cresswell has already turned down a new 12-month contract in East London are not true and it is instead understood that the Hammers’ longest-serving player would be open to signing on the dotted line.
Ogbonna is a highly respected member of the West Ham squad in the changing room and while he is set to turn 36 in May, he could be kept on as speculation continues around Nayef Aguerd’s future in claret and blue.

Most supporters would have likely already come to terms with the fact that both Ogbonna and Cresswell were set to depart West Ham this summer, but this latest update has well and truly thrown a spanner into the works.
While neither player has been a regular under Moyes this season, they both offer something valuable to the squad in terms of experience. They may not play week in and week out, but they can be as important off of the field as on it.
If they are willing to accept slightly reduced terms to agree on a one-year extension, it could be an excellent deal for the Irons especially as the squad look set to be under new management with Moyes increasingly likely to depart.
No matter who takes over at the London Stadium, whether it be Julien Lopetegui or Paulo Fonseca, they will want some older heads in the changing room to help guide the group. Both Cresswell and Ogbonna are capable of filling that role.
