£8m development emerges in West Ham United bid to sign Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips

Manchester City have set an asking price of £50million to sign Kalvin Phillips amid interest from West Ham, according to the Sunday People.

The newspaper reported on page 51 of its print edition on 29 October that the Hammers are joined in the race for the England international by Newcastle United, Liverpool, Juventus and Aston Villa.

It said the Premier League champions are aware of the interest in the 27-year-old midfielder and that, if they were to receive their asking price, they would make an £8million profit on the £42million they paid Leeds United to sign him in 2022.

Tough competition

It’s pretty clear that West Ham would face a lot of competition to sign Phillips if they are serious about trying to add him to their ranks.

It looks nailed on that the midfielder will leave the Etihad Stadium in January after he’s never really convinced Pep Guardiola that he’s good enough to play a key role in his side.

The difficulty for the Hammers, though, will be competing with other clubs that are currently playing in the Champions League because that’s the level he will probably want to play at.

It does feel as though the Irons need another central midfielder as it’s quite a lot for Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek given that we are playing in Europe again this season.

If one of those players were to miss a period of time, then we’d be really short in that department, so a move for Phillips would be worth making even if it would be difficult to pull off.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a forward dubbed “incredible” by Neymar as his club want to sell him.
