£20m bid update emerges as West Ham United eye Jake O’Brien transfer

Everton are prepared to launch a £20million bid to beat West Ham and Nottingham Forest to the signing of Lyon defender Jake O’Brien, according to Ferveur Lyonnaise.

The French news outlet reported on 8 July that the Republic of Ireland international is valued at £30million by the club.

It is understood that the Ligue 1 side are willing to let him leave provided their valuation is met.

West Ham eye Jake O’Brien as an alternative to Jean-Clair Todibo

The Hammers appear to be considering O’Brien as a potential alternative to Jean-Clair Todibo due to the latter’s higher price tag.

While the club has already made a significant investment in Max Kilman, the need for a second centre-back is apparent, especially with the potential departures of Zouma and Aguerd.

O’Brien, valued at around £30 million by Lyon, offers a more affordable option compared to Todibo, whose transfer fee could be significantly higher.

The 23-year-old has shown promise in Ligue 1, contributing to Lyon’s revival last season with his defensive skills and aerial prowess.

His ability to score goals from set pieces adds another dimension to his game, making him an attractive prospect for the Hammers.

The club’s interest in O’Brien aligns with their strategy to strengthen the squad while managing financial constraints.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers may vary their training routines as they have made an approach to sign a £70m-rated player this summer.
