West Ham Super Fans have flocked to a post on the West Ham Zone Facebook page about Michail Antonio’s contract.
David Ornstein claims that the Irons have an option to extend his current deal until 2024 if they want to [The Athletic].
The 31-year-old’s current deal expires in 2023, but you would think the Irons would trigger that extension.
Certainly, that is what our Super Fans want to see.
Antonio to stay until the end of his career?
Now, given that Antonio is already approaching the twilight of his career, you would think that he might not be the Irons’ first-choice striker by the time his deal expires.
Now, that isn’t guaranteed, but it certainly seems possible.
He would be 33, and though he could still be in peak physical shape, you would expect his levels to have slightly dipped.
However, it is clear that our Super Fans would love to see him stay on and given that he is now the club’s top goalscorer in the Premier League, why wouldn’t they?
Football isn’t a sentimental game, but we see no reason why the Hammers wouldn’t extend his deal if Antonio keeps his levels high.
However, that decision is a long way away, and a lot of things could change between now and then.
Clearly, though, our Super Fans are very happy with this news and feel it is an easy decision.
