Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that he expects West Ham target Jesse Lingard to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer.

However, the Red Devils appear to be playing hard ball, and despite Lingard not being guaranteed a place in the starting XI, his future appears to lie at Manchester United.

He played the second half of his side’s 2-1 victory over Derby County and after the game Solskjaer was quizzed about his future.
Sky Sports quoted him as saying, “He was one of the positives. He’s a Manchester United player and he wants to fight for his place.
“He’s come back bright, confident and with lots of energy. I think everyone saw what he did at the end of last season with West Ham.
“He’s still in my plans. I expect him at Man Utd at the start of the season.”
The Norwegian’s quotes did not go too well with West Ham fans and they took to Facebook to express their displeasure.
Here’s what they said:

Fuming
We can’t understand what’s going on in Lingard’s mind. If he wanted to play regularly, the answer was simple – leave Old Trafford for good.
However, it seems that he’s content to going back to the same routine prior to joining us on loan and serve as a backup at the club.
He’s not going to start ahead of Bruno Fernandes or Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford’s injury could see playing time given to Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial.
Paul Pogba’s also been playing a lot on the left-wing, so we’re confused as to how Lingard believes he can actually break into the playing XI there.
As things stand, it’s looking unlikely that we sign the player.
