‘Building something special’ – West Ham Super Fans thrilled with Moyes contract report

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Ham Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around the London Stadium.

West Ham have nine matches to play in the Premier League this season and find themselves sitting in fifth position – just two points shy of fourth-placed Chelsea and a potential spot in the Champions League next season.

David Moyes cannot be praised enough for the job he’s done at the London Stadium since started his second spell in East London midway through last season when the Hammers were solid contenders for relegation to the Championship.

When David Sullivan and David Gold re-hired Moyes last December, he signed an 18-month long deal which is currently due to expire at the end of this season.

However, an update by Claret & Hugh reports that Moyes’ contract includes a clause which will see his London Stadium stay extended by a further 12 months if he achieves a finish of 13th or above this season.

And, with West Ham 16 points ahead of 14th place with less than 10 matches to play, it seems nailed on that one-year extension will be automatically triggered.

Claret & Hugh also report that despite this, Moyes will be offered a new two-year contract in the summer which also features a similar clause for an extra 12-months.

Moyes has also been linked with the managerial vacancy at Scottish Premiership side Celtic [talkSPORT] but it is understood he would reject a return to Glasgow in favour of staying at West Ham.

We asked our panel of West Ham Super Fans for their view on the latest situation regarding Moyes’ contract and while results haven’t been as amazing in recent weeks, they are happy to see the Scot will be staying for next season.

Moyes has operated on a tight budget since arriving back at West Ham but he’s still managed to improve the squad considerably.

Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal, Craig Dawson and Jesse Lingard have proven to be stellar additions while Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma are likely to improve.

He needs to be backed in the summer transfer window though if the club wants to continue on the upward trajectory they’ve found themselves on and a new centre-forward to replace January departure Sebastien Haller is a must.

One member of our Super Fans has urged Gold and Sullivan to give Moyes the financial support he needs in order to keep on building what he’s started while he also cast doubt upon the 13th-place clause in his contract as it highlights the club’s “lack of ambition”.

Whichever way you look at it, Moyes has performed above and beyond expectations in his second spell as West Ham manager.

This time last year, we were nervously awaiting the Premier League season to restart with the Hammers level on points with Bournemouth in the relegation zone.

Now, we’re in the final international break of the campaign with a two-point gap between ourselves and fourth.

Moyes has done brilliantly and as long as he keeps up that work, we’re happy for him to stay in East London for a very long time.

In other West Ham news, Moyes’ tried and tested formula failed him when the Hammers capitulated versus Arsenal.
