West Ham United ace Mohammed Kudus emerges as silver lining for Ghana in dispiriting draw

Mohammed Kudus was a silver lining for Ghana in their draw against Sudan as the West Ham United star’s efforts went in vain on Thursday 10 October.

The Black Stars were held to a 0-0 draw by 120th-ranked Sudan at home in Group F of the AFCON qualifiers.

Ghana are currently placed third in the four-team group, having picked up only two points from three games so far.

Wearing the captain’s armband for Ghana for the first time, Kudus largely maintained his standards in attack.

The West Ham star got three of his four shots on target as per FotMob and would have fired his team to victory had it not been for a seven-save performance from Sudan goalkeeper Mohamed Mustafa.

Furthermore, he completed 25 of his 28 passes with 89 per cent accuracy, with five of them being chance-creating balls.

Kudus remarkably also completed four of his dribbles with 100 per cent success, with only teammate Alidu Seidu equalling him.

Eight of 62 (13 per cent) of his touches came in the opposition box, although he missed two major chances, including one at the death.

The 24-year-old’s influence was not restricted to the final third as he recovered the ball nine times and won five duels.

There is no doubt that he will be determined to set things right when Ghana face Sudan again on Tuesday, 15 October.
