West Ham star on verge of breakthrough under Nuno Espirito Santo thanks to Arsenal masterclass
West Ham look to have improved key areas under Nuno Espirito Santo despite failing to pick up a victory under the new head coach yet.
Nuno is aware he needs to change things at West Ham, and quickly, but fans will be pleased with the early signs of progression made.
After two games in charge, Nuno has identified problems within the West Ham squad and will look to rectify issues in the coming weeks to get points on the board.
West Ham had some good individual performers against Arsenal, as the game further showcased the Hammers’ transition to Nuno‘s playstyle.
One player in particular has raised eyebrows with his last two performances, as gradual hope is building for his belated breakthrough.

Crysencio Summerville’s breakthrough is imminent under Nuno Espirito Santo
Nuno is Crysencio Summerville‘s third West Ham boss, as the latter has failed to show his full potential under the tenures of Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter.
Summerville joined West Ham from Leeds in last season’s summer transfer window, as he came with high expectations after an award-winning season in the Championship.
Despite his side’s poor form under Potter early this season, he has impressed and carried that momentum since Nuno’s appointment, making his breakthrough look imminent.
Summerville vs Arsenal with stats from Sofascore:
- Played the whole game
- 85% pass accuracy
- Won six ground duels
- Was fouled four times
- Had 45 touches
Arsenal was always going to be a difficult game, especially for West Ham’s forwards, who were up against arguably the best defence in the league.
Nuno set up his side defensively, as the Hammers recorded just 32% possession, and yet Summerville still looked a threat considering the circumstances.
Summerville also impressed against Everton, which was Nuno’s first game in charge.

- Played 77 minutes
- 93% pass auccary
- Completed three dribbles
- The winger had tree shots
- He missed one big chance
- Totalled 0.50 xG
The 23-year-old was so close to his first goal of the season against Everton, as the chances are clearly starting to come.

Wingers at Nottingham Forest had great success while under Nuno’s management, as Summerville is bound for success soon.
Summerville suffered a major injury setback at West Ham
Summerville picked up a major hamstring injury in January and had to wait until August this year to make his return.
Speaking to West Ham‘s media team post-match Summerville opened up on what it feels like being back on the grass.
“I love every minute, every time I step on the pitch, I’m grateful to god. Obviously, you want to win the games so I’m a bit disappointed, but I take the positives to play, and we go again after the break.”
The Dutchman only scored once last campaign in 22 games as he was unable to really kickstart his career at West Ham.
This year, he’s already grabbed two assists and looks to be going from strength to strength, as fans should be prepared for his breakthrough.
