West Ham could inflict humiliating 130-year+ record on Ruben Amorim in Manchester United showdown

West Ham are set to face Manchester United on Thursday and could inflict Ruben Amorim’s 10th top-flight defeat at Old Trafford.

The Hammers will be looking to return to winning ways after they were defeated 2-0 against Liverpool on Sunday.

While a loss was expected, it keeps Nuno Espirito Santo’s side above the relegation zone on goal difference alone.

With Man United up next, the hosts are the favourites to pick up a win. However, if West Ham can sneak a victory, they would inflict an embarrassing record on Amorim.

Ruben Amorim aiming to avoid a 10th top-flight Old Trafford defeat vs West Ham

Amorim’s time at Man United has been mixed.

After a difficult first season where he oversaw a record-low Premier League finish and a Europa League final defeat, he has bounced back this campaign.

The Red Devils are in the race for the Champions League. However, they are still very much beatable.

Now, according to BBC Sport on 1 December, if the Hammers beat Amorim’s side, he will become the quickest manager to lose top-flight 10 games at Old Trafford since 1894.

AH Albut was the manager back then and achieved this humiliating feat in 23 matches. Amorim currently has nine defeats in 19 matches, meaning the Portuguese manager could become the fastest ever to do this, breaking the 131-year record.

Ruben Amorim
It doesn’t look like Ruben Amorim will be David Moyes’ successor at West Ham United.

West Ham will no doubt be desperate to do this, not only to move away from the relegation zone, but to also get one over Man United.

It would also allow Nuno to get revenge against the Red Devils, who did the double over Nottingham Forest last season.

West Ham’s record against Manchester United

In recent times, West Ham have enjoyed playing Man United

In their last five meetings, the Hammers have come out on top four times, including a 2-0 win at Old Trafford at the end of last season.

Nuno will be looking to take inspiration from these past results to ensure that West Ham cause an upset on Thursday.

If so, it will no doubt be Nuno’s best result since he moved to the London Stadium earlier this season.
