Vladimir Coufal suffers West Ham United transfer setback after Euro 2024 display

Vladimir Coufal’s hopes of leaving West Ham this summer may have suffered a setback following his most recent display at Euro 2024.

The 31-year-old featured at Czechia blew a lead over Portugal, with Chico Conceiacao scoring a winner two minutes into added time in their opening game of the tournament.

Coufal, who was a regular under David Moyes, has previously expressed his annoyance over his contract situation at the London Stadium, which has yet to be resolved.

According to The Athletic [28 March], the full-back was frustrated not to be offered improved terms when the Hammers activated a one-year extension in his contract in January and has now been unable to agree terms over a new deal.

With the right-back heading into the final 12 months of his current contract, with no signs of a new deal being signed, he will be hoping to use Euro 2024 as a chance to showcase his talent to the world.

Despite, what seems like, his aim to leave the Hammers this summer, those chances will not have improved following his performance against the Euro 2016 champions.

While he did supply the assist for Lukas Provod’s opener, his underlying stats would not persuade many clubs that he is worth taking on this summer as a veteran signing.

Starting as a wing-back, Coufal played the whole 90 minutes, only being able to register a 46 per cent passing accuracy and completing zero per cent of his dribbles. [FotMob]

Though seven of his passes were made into the final third, just 20 per cent of his crosses into the penalty area were accurate, and the same for his long balls.

His tackling success was marginally better, winning 67 per cent of his tackles (2/3), though he was dispossessed on three occasions, was dribbled past twice, won 44 per cent of his ground duels and won zero per cent of his aerial duels.

While he was a favourite under Moyes at the London Stadium, it must be taken into account that he only registers in the bottom 28 percentile for tackles among full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues. [FBref]

If the right-back is keen on leaving West Ham this summer, he must start to perform better on the international stage very soon.
