Thomas Tuchel spot on with Jarrod Bowen verdict after what West Ham star did vs Wales

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen was benched for England again in the win over Wales on Thursday.

Bowen was left on the bench as England faced Andorra in the last international break, as Thomas Tuchel opted against utilising the forward.

The 28-year-old was afforded a chance off the bench against Craig Bellamy’s side, despite Bowen’s struggles with his expected goals at West Ham this season.

This allowed Bowen to match Scott Parker’s caps against Wales with the Hammers star sitting on 17 ahead of the clash at Wembley.

Bowen went on to prove the Three Lions boss right in the capital as the forward made a 20-minute cameo against Wales.

Jarrod Bowen was poor for England vs Wales

Tuchel’s squad is so competitive right now that players need to seize their opportunities when they arise.

Morgan Rogers is an example of someone who has done precisely that with a goal and excellent performance against the Dragons.

By comparison, Bowen struggled against Wales and failed to make an impact as a second-half substitute.

Karren Brady was backing Bowen to succeed with England, but in his 20-minute cameo, there was a general lack of substance.

He did manage to create a chance, but he only took two touches in Wales’ penalty area and failed to contribute a single defensive action or successful duel.

As Tuchel looks to formulate a squad, this sort of performance won’t impress and is something that the Hammers skipper needs to take seriously.

An upturn in form at the London Stadium could spark a change that could end with Bowen in the starting XI for the Three Lions.

Bowen needs to improve for West Ham moving forward

It hasn’t been the dream start to the campaign for the captain, especially considering how good he has been for many years in E20.

Bowen has managed to net three goals and has still represented a bright spark in some dark days for the Hammers.

There are certainly some concerning numbers surrounding his game right now, something that Tuchel may see as a worry.

The German isn’t going to start a player with such frustrating underlying numbers, so the forward’s minutes are bound to be limited for his country.

As it stands, the England boss is right to leave Bowen out, but there is no reason why he can’t prove the former Chelsea boss wrong.
