Lucas Paqueta dreadful, 7/10 sends message to Nuno Espirito Santo – West Ham payer ratings vs Liverpool
Lucas Paqueta has plenty of apologies to make after his woeful performance during West Ham’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the London Stadium.
West Ham came into Sunday’s match unbeaten in three games, while Liverpool were reeling from a heavy defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Alphonse Areola brilliantly saved Alexander Isak’s effort in the first half to keep the match goalless, before the Swedish striker fired home from Cody Gakpo’s cut-back to open the scoring in the 60th minute.
Lucas Paqueta was then sent off in the 84th for complaining to the referee after making a foul, talking his way into two yellow cards in quick succession, and Gakpo secured the win for the Reds in stoppage time.
The result leaves West Ham 17th in the Premier League table, and Paqueta certainly wasn’t at his best.

Lucas Paqueta awful on West Ham return
Lucas Paqueta failed to light up the London Stadium with any magic.
The Brazilian midfielder was suspended for the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, and he would have been aiming to make a statement against the reigning champions.
The Hammers never looked like scoring, and he found it hard to get on the ball and create chances to carve open Liverpool’s fragile defence.

The Brazilian’s red card was a moment of stupidity, and he let down his teammates drastically in the closing stages.
Barring one through-ball in the first half, Paqueta struggled to link up with Callum Wilson, and it was a bitterly disappointing display.
According to FotMob, the 28-year-old lost the most duels in the match (eight),and his red card capped off an afternoon to forget for the Brazilian.
Jean-Clair Todibo delivers assured display
In a match that was lacking in creativity, Jean-Clair Todibo was composed in defence, and was perhaps unfortunate to end up on the losing side.
West Ham are embroiled in a relegation battle, and if they’re going to survive in the Premier League, Todibo will play a huge role.
Todibo has been slammed for his poor performances, and he still has a long way to go before proving he is worth the £32.8million the Hammers paid for him.
It was Konstantinos Mavropanos who left Isak unmarked for his goal, and Todibo had a faultless game at the back.

With Max Kilman dropped from the starting lineup, there is a real chance for West Ham’s centre-backs to make their case to Nuno that they deserve to be starting week in, week out.
According to FotMob, the 25-year-old made 7 clearances, and 8 recoveries as the Hammers fell to a disappointing defeat.
He has certainly impressed in recent weeks, and has improved massively on his lacklustre performances during the 2024-25 season.
On a bitterly disappointing day for the Hammers, there were few players who delivered a standout performance.
