West Ham United must react if Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher becomes available

West Ham United must react if Conor Gallagher becomes available for a loan move as a number of Premier League clubs circle for the Chelsea midfielder.

90min revealed on Wednesday 17 August, that the Irons, along with Newcastle and Crystal Palace all want to be made aware of his availability.

Sky Sports reported on 15 August that Newcastle have targetted the 22-year-old as an alternative to James Maddison after having numerous bids turned down for the Leicester midfielder.

It’s unlikely that Gallagher leaves Stamford Bridge this summer after being heavily involved in the preseason and featuring in the Premier League for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The 22-year-old came off the bench in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham and looks to be very much involved in Tuchel’s plans this season.

However, if he was allowed to exit the West London club this summer then he would be the answer to Moyes’ midfield problems.

The England international would add an attacking threat to West Ham’s squad as well as aggression and bite in midfield.

Gallagher has previously been dubbed “phenomenal” by former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer on the Optus Sport YouTube show (16 December 2021).

If he did become available, Palace and Newcastle would provide serious competition for Gallagher.

He enjoyed a profitable loan spell at Selhurst Park in the 2021/22 season, and Newcastle’s financial might will be hard for the Hammers to contest with.

However, the summer transfer business at the London Stadium and remaining in the capital could be a draw for the 22-year-old to make the move across London.

A left-back is also on the agenda for the Hammers with The Sun’s Jack Rosser revealing via his personal Twitter account that West Ham have walked away from their move to sign Chelsea’s Emerson.
