West Ham United: Amadou Onana wants Everton move as Toffees table bid

West Ham United transfer target Amadou Onana wants to move to Premier League rivals Everton as talks with the Hammers stall according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Guardian journalist revealed on Wednesday 3 August (via Twitter), that the Hammers have a full agreement with Lille for the 20-year-old Belgium international.

However, Belgium journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported (via Twitter, 3 August) that Everton have tabled an offer for Onana and that they will exceed the Hammers in the race for the 20-year-old.

Tavolieri also revealed that Everton are close to finalising personal terms with the midfielder.

Big blow

This does seem like a kick in the teeth for West Ham, with a side that was threatened by relegation last season proving more attractive for the Belgium international.

Ultimately, another midfielder would’ve fine-tuned Moyes’ options in the centre of the park and put the Hammers in a really strong position heading into the new season.

Onana would’ve been a long-term asset for the club going forward and could well have gone on to make the club a decent profit.

However, it’s important to remember that Onana has only enjoyed one full season in Ligue 1 and would’ve taken time to adapt to the Premier League.

According to The Guardian (2 August) the Hammers are leading the way for Burnley wing-back Maxwel Cornet and missing out on Onana could well see the Irons accelerate their pursuit of the Ivory Coast international.

A left-back and potentially another central defender have to be the priorities for David Moyes in the coming weeks.
