Kalvin Phillips receives ‘really bad news’ at West Ham United as Man City loan goes bad to worse

West Ham loanee Kalvin Phillips has been handed “really bad news” with the recent England call-up for Kobbie Mainoo.

That is according to Gabby Agbonlahor, with the talkSPORT pundit suggesting that Phillips’ Three Lions chances could be over.

The verdict comes after Phillips was left out of Gareth Southgate’s latest squad, with Manchester United ace Mainoo shining after his inclusion.

“It is really bad news for Kalvin Phillips,” Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT. “Because I feel like no one is even talking about him now.

“Even if he had a good few games at West Ham, I feel like his England chances now that Mainoo has come into it could be over.”

West Ham loanee Kalvin Phillips now out of the England picture

Hammers loanee Phillips was already walking a tightrope regarding his England chances while he was struggling for game time at Manchester City.

A January loan move to the London Stadium was supposed to aid those chances, but the midfielder has struggled in claret and blue so far.

He has often been left out by David Moyes, while Phillips has made errors when on the pitch for his temporary club.

The situation has seemingly reached boiling point, with England manager Southgate straying from his loyal approach to Phillips by snubbing him for the recent international break.

And unfortunately for the former Leeds United star, Manchester United ace Mainoo has not only come into the fold, but has been sensational.

The 18-year-old blew everyone away in the 2-2 draw with Belgium, picking up the Man of the Match award in the friendly clash at Wembley.

Competition for places in Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad is severe, and it seems that Phillips is now a long way down the pecking order when it comes to midfield options.

In other West Ham news, Phillips has sent a message to Declan Rice after a double England achievement.
