Crystal Palace in talks to sign Maxwel Cornet, he’s decided on West Ham United transfer in last-ditch move
Maxwel Cornet is keen to quit West Ham United before the January transfer window shuts on Thursday 1 February, according to Ed Aarons.
The Guardian’s sports writer revealed via his official X account (31 January) that Crystal Palace are interested in signing the 27-year-old from their London rivals on loan.
Talks are continuing over a move for the Ivory Coast forward, with the player keen on quitting The London Stadium.
Cornet recently netted his first goal for the Hammers in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday 21 January.
Fresh start
Things just haven’t worked out for Cornet since he joined West Ham.
Since making the switch from Burnley to join up with David Moyes’ side for a fee of £17.5million (Sky Sports News, 6 August), he has managed just 31 appearances in West Ham colours, scoring once and providing six assists in that time.
At this moment in time, the £17.5million paid to bring Cornet to the club appears to have been a waste, and a fresh start might be exactly what the forward needs to rediscover his form.
For David Moyes and the Hammers, if the Scot does not plan on utilising Cornet, having handed him just two Premier League appearances all season, then it might make sense to get the player off the books.

A permanent exit would probably be favourable, although a loan in the Premier League could attract some potential suitors ahead of the summer transfer window.
In other West Ham news, a double exit update has been provided on two players at the club.
