Ben Johnson contract extension still an option amid Premier League interest in West Ham defender – Dharmesh Sheth
Clubs from both the Premier League and Championship are interested in the services of West Ham defender Ben Johnson, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports News reporter provided an update via his personal Twitter account (25 August), reporting that the 23-year-old defender is subject to interest from a “number” of clubs.
Johnson, who was part of the England Under-21 European Championship winning squad, has entered the final year of his contract at the London Stadium, and the possibility of extending his stay with the East London outfit is still on the table.
Sheth added via Twitter that initial contact has been made with Johnson’s representatives.
Options
It seems as if Johnson’s future is very much up in the air. With the player now in the final year of his deal at the London Stadium, he will most likely want to have his future resolved sooner rather than later to avoid being left without a club this time next summer.
He only managed to make 29 appearances in all competitions for David Moyes’ side last season, playing just over 800 minutes of Premier League football and he might now feel that it is best to move on from West Ham in search of more regular first-team game time.

Primarily operating as a right-back, the 23-year-old has also featured in other areas across the pitch and this versatility could make him very useful for clubs looking to sign him.
Johnson has plenty of experience at the highest level and will clearly not be short of options if he does choose not to extend with the Hammers.
In other West Ham news, final documents are being checked before the club announces their next signing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
