WHZ View: Lingard epitomises how Moyes transfer strategy has transformed West Ham

David Moyes deserves all the credit he’s getting for his transformation of West Ham over the past 15 months.

The boss has made a lot of changes behind the scenes at the club. He’s successfully shifted a lot of the dead weight and bringing in his own coaching staff. There seems to be an excellent atmosphere amongst the squad at the moment.

One area, in particular, he has improved drastically has been transfers. West Ham have a long history of making some disastrous signings. Andre Ayew, Javier Hernandez, Felipe Anderson and Sebastian Haller have all joined for big money but flopped.

The same can’t be said during the last three transfer windows. Moyes has not only signed players based on their ability but on their attitude and personality.

There is no greater example of this than Jesse Lingard. The attacker was getting no match-time at Manchester United – his career was in serious decline. He’s certainly making up for lost time in east London, though.

Seven games, five goals and two assists. He is the latest of a list of Moyes success stories in such a short space of time. You only have to listen to the way Lingard conducts himself in interviews to see his fantastic attitude and professionalism.

As reported by whufc.com, Lingard spoke highly of his decision to join West Ham on loan. He said:  “It’s like a new lease of life. I’m playing week in, week out, and doing something that I love so, for me, it’s been perfect.

“It’s just about believing and doing well for West Ham – scoring, assisting, winning games.”

Moyes has made wholesale changed to the squad. For comparison, only three players started his first game back in charge and started out 3-3 draw with Arsenal last weekend. Lukasz Fabianski, Declan Rice and Aaron Cresswell are the only survivors.

It’s been cut-throat, but it’s been effective. Moyes has seen fantastic results from his new additions to the West Ham squad. Hopefully, he gets backed sufficiently in the summer transfer market and we can continue to push on next season.
