WHZ View: David Moyes decision could spell end for Issa Diop at West Ham

West Ham United defender Issa Diop has become somewhat of a forgotten figure at the London Stadium this season.

The Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order and has even been linked with an imminent exit in this January window.

Alan Nixon has reported over the weekend that Nice could look to seal a loan move with an option to make it permanent in the summer for Diop.

The 23-year-old has only made four appearances this season in the Premier League, with one of those coming off the bench.

One decision over the Christmas period does not make good reading for Diop.

David Moyes has decided to rest the likes of Fabian Balbuena in the past two weeks, which should have been a massive opportunity for Diop.

Instead, the Scotsman has decided to use Craig Dawson, who is only on loan from Watford – a big concern that the loanee is ahead of one of our so-called brightest talents.

Another concern for Diop is how well Dawson has performed.

After coming in against Southampton, he kept his spot for the Everton clash and helped the Hammers to clean-sheets in both games against impressive Premier League sides.

The 30-year-old has been superb in his two appearances, making 10 clearances and four tackles according to WhoScored – keeping the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin quiet.

With Dawson proving he is more than capable of being an impressive rotation option, this could spell the end for Diop at the London Stadium.

The French youngster will be desperate for minutes, and the possibility to return to his home nation and Nice could be too good to turn down.
