West Ham Zone View: Hammers fans will be praying Allardyce verdict proves correct
West Ham United made a splash on Thursday when they announced that David Moyes had added two new faces to his coaching staff.
Respected coach Paul Nevin was joined by former Hammers captain Kevin Nolan as the new additions in east London.
The appointment of the ex Irons skipper is the headline-grabbing one, of course, and it appears that he’ll be a positive addition.
The man who brought Nolan to the club, Sam Allardyce, certainly feels that his former charge will do well back with Irons.
“He’s been out in the wilderness far too long, Kevin, and I think that the experience he’s gained from his position as a manger will stand him in good stead going in with David,” he said on talkSPORT.
“It’s a tough job, but he knows all about West Ham. His link with Mark Noble will be crucial, as well, because he’s a big man in the dressing room, Mark Noble.”
The Hammers supporters will certainly be hoping that Allardyce’s verdict proves correct, because things clearly need to change at the London Stadium.
Nolan is a straight-up character who served the club with distinction. He should come into the dressing room and instantly receive the respect of the players, while he has managerial experience from his time with Notts County as well.
He needs to give these players a rocket, because they’ve not been doing it this season. He knows what the club means to the supporters, and if he can emphasise that to the players then he might be able to elicit a response.
That will be the hope amongst the Irons faithful, although many of them have already begun to lose faith in the team’s survival hopes.
In other West Ham news, a former England international has ripped into one Hammers star for his performances this season.
