West Ham United would be mad not to sign Josip Juranovic after ‘excellent’ World Cup display

It was a night of contrasting emotions for West Ham United players at the World Cup as Croatia beat Brazil in a tense penalty shootout.

Lucas Paqueta assisted the first goal of extra-time as he fed Neymar who rounded the goalkeeper and fired in but Hammers loanee Nikola Vlasic netted the first penalty of the shootout.

It will be the latter heading into the semi-finals as a result but he may not be the only West Ham player in that Croatian side if they have any sense.

Josip Juranovic is another player who the Irons have been interested in signing in the January transfer window, according to 90min [30 November], and he had an exceptional game.

Football Scotland reporter Mark Hendry was amazed at the right-back, currently playing for Celtic, describing his performance as “excellent” with a lot of scouts watching his every move at the Education City Stadium.

The 27-year-old was sublime on the right-hand side of the Croatian team with a number of vital blocks and interceptions in front of his own goal.

His attacking output was just as impressive with marauding runs and quality at the end of them seeing him put in a near-perfect all-round performance.

David Moyes should have watched that game and got straight on the phone to Celtic to try and get a deal in motion because his current right-back scenario is not a good one.

Thilo Kehrer has been filling in so far this season but he may be needed at centre-half when the season resumes and Ben Johnson has injury issues.

Vladimir Coufal can do a job but his future at West Ham is questionable so the Irons would be barking mad not to at the very least try to get the Hoops defender south of the border in the January transfer window.
