West Ham United to focus on other targets as Matias Soule makes transfer decision
West Ham United are clearly in the market for attacking reinforcement this summer.
Last season both Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus carried the Hammers’ attack and were one of the main reasons behind their ninth-place finish.
The duo were on top form for David Moyes with interest being shown in both players at the start of the summer window.
Since then, developments have emerged and in the case of Bowen, he looks fairly likely to stay at the London Stadium for at least another season.
Matias Soule is one of the players who has been consistently linked with West Ham after a stellar season on loan Frosinone from Juventus..
But, despite West Ham’s evident interest, according to Italian journalist Paolo Rochetti (who is followed by Fabrizio Romano on X), the Argentina-born midfielder has chosen to join Roma.
Rochetti reported this on 18 July and it has seemingly sealed the fate of the attacker and thus ended the Hammers’ interest.
This now means that Lopetegui will have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcement this summer.
West Ham United now need to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcement
Now that Soule has made his choice, there are plenty of other players who the Hammers could do as good of a job as the Argentina international.
Steven Bergwijn is a name that has cropped up [Telegraaf, 13 July] here and there and the fact that he can be deployed across the front three is an added bonus.
Especially since Michail Antonio could be on his way out [GZH, 28 June] of the club this season after a below-par performance last term.
Soule would have been an ideal candidate for the Hammers as he still has room to grow and perhaps even proper should a team give him a fair chance.
But, it seems evident that he’s keen on staying in Italy despite the Premier League interest shown in him this summer.
Although losing out on Soule is a blow to West Ham, it’s not the end of the world as there are plenty of other players that the club can go for this summer.
