West Ham United show major disrespect to Said Benrahma after latest reports

Said Benrahma can leave West Ham should they be successful in their pursuit of Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard, according to Claret & Hugh.

According to The Mail, the Hammers have made an early move to bring the England international back to the London Stadium.

This is somewhat understandable given his excellent form during his loan spell in 2021 – scoring nine Premier League goals whilst being the team’s top performer.

David Moyes should certainly look to add quality to his squad but it shouldn’t come at the expense of the Irons’ existing players.

The biggest issue this season has been the lack of squad depth and if they continue to sell players in order to buy – it will never get better.

West Ham simply have to keep hold of as much quality as possible as they look to build on the momentum gained in the last couple of campaigns.

Unfair.

Make no mistake, Benrahma hasn’t exactly lit east London on fire since making his move from Brentford permanent last summer but he has faced some rather unfair criticism.

There have been cries amongst the Hammers fans for him to be more consistent which is somewhat true but the numbers he is putting in can’t be ignored.

Seventeen goals in the Premier and Europa League this season is a very good effort – especially with him often appearing from the bench.

There is no doubt he is a top player, things just haven’t quite clicked into place for him yet and everyone needs to be patient.

At 26, there is still so much more room for improvement in his game and to allow him to leave for an almost 30-year-old Lingard is criminal.

Benrahma should be fuming that a player at the end of his career will steal his spot in the squad after just one proper season as an Irons player.

It wouldn’t be surprising if he wanted to leave himself after this before he is forced out of the door – if Lingard does sign.
