West Ham United receive major boost to sign Danny Ings as Everton pull out of race
West Ham may have received a big boost to sign Aston Villa striker Danny Ings in the January transfer window.
The Daily Mail reported on 5 January that the Hammers are looking to sign a striker and they are in the race to sign Ings in the winter transfer window.
Everton made an attempt to sign the striker on loan but it was rebuffed. Sky Sports report (transfer centre, 5 January, 9.42 am) on Thursday that the Toffees have pulled out of the race, and they won’t be making any further enquiry for Ings.
The news will come as a massive boost for the goal-shy Hammers.
Ings has scored six goals in eight starts in the Premier League this season, but he is currently not playing regularly under Unai Emery.
Given an option, Ings would rather test himself at West Ham than at Southampton who are at rock bottom in the Premier League.
With Everton out of the picture now, the Hammers have got a brilliant opportunity to secure the signing of Ings if they make a formal bid.
The 30-year-old has a contract at Villa Park until 2024, so the Hammers need to spend a decent fee to secure his signature.
David Moyes has got two fantastic strikers in Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio, but they have managed only five goals between them in the Premier League.
Ings is a natural finisher and his records for Southampton (46 goals in 100 games) and Burnley (43 goals in 130 games) are enviable.
Certainly, an experienced striker of Ings’ quality would really add depth and quality to the side as the Hammers desperately looking to get out of their current situation.
