West Ham United ready to move for Karamoko Dembele after club official comments
West Ham might be back in the hunt to sign exciting forward Karamoko Dembele after what Brest’s sporting director said.
HITC reported (19 June) that the Hammers are among a number of clubs including Everton and Nottingham Forest who are still exploring a potential deal for the 21-year-old forward.
And if they are to make a move, they will have been encouraged by Brest sporting director Gregory Lorenzi told French publication L’Equipe (18), where he confirmed Dembele is one of four players who are free to leave the club.
Why West Ham signing Karamoko Dembele would be a good move for both parties
The once highly coveted youngster saw his career stall a little after showing prodigious talent at Celtic but an excellent loan at League One side Blackpool last season displayed the undoubted potential Dembele possesses.
From West Ham’s perspective he fits the age and profile of player they should be looking at and indeed they have already done work in that area by confirming the transfer of Brazilian youngster, Luis Guilherme [Fabrizio Romano, 12 June].
Despite Dembele not yet living up to the potential that he was doused with in his younger years, that doesn’t mean he can’t do so in the future.
Dembele played a total of 47 games for Blackpool last season and managed to contribute to a total of 23 goals during his time with the recently relegated outfit.
Although these statistics wouldn’t likely transfer to the Premier League just yet, a season on loan to a Championship team could be an ideal way for the former Celtic man to develop his game and be an asset to West Ham in the not-too-distant future.
His addition alongside the Hammers’ rumoured interest in Samu Omorodion [Matt Law, 18 June] outlines their intention of future-proofing their squad.
In other West Ham news, a pricetag has been set should the Hammers wish to pursue a Premier League defender this summer.
