West Ham United player ratings v Burnley – Kalvin Phillips flops, Danny Ings stars from bench

West Ham United will be disappointed at their latest display, having drawn 2-2 with struggling Burnley at the London Stadium on Sunday (10 March).

A David Datro Fofana rocket put the visitors ahead, with a Konstantinos Mavropanos own goal giving them a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Lucas Paqueta immediately pulled one back for the hosts in the second-half, with substitute Danny Ings levelling late on.

Here, West Ham Zone rates the Hammers players out of 10 for their performances against the Clarets at the London Stadium.

Alphonse Areola – 4

The Hammers number one could not have done anything to stop the stunning strike from Fofana early on, but he will still be disappointed not to have conceded twice against the struggling Clarets.

Aaron Cresswell – 4

Cresswell tried to keep hold of the ball and be as diligent in defence as possible, but he was nowhere near as effective as regular left-back Emerson has been all season.

Nayef Aguerd – 3

Aguerd failed to keep the ball well when in possession, and indeed constantly struggled with the Burnley attackers when out of it.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – 3

While the likes of fellow summer signings Mohammed Kudus and James Ward-Prowse have shone in claret and blue, Mavropanos has struggled, with his issues continuing against Burnley with an own goal.

Vladimir Coufal – 4

Coufal tried his best to get forward at the London Stadium, but was thwarted by his opposite number more often than not, with the right-back also having plenty of issues in defence.

Kalvin Phillips – 2

It was another very poor display from the Manchester City loanee, who could have done better to prevent Fofana’s early opener, with Phillips taken off at half-time by Moyes.

Tomas Soucek – 4

The Czech Republic international failed to come out on top in many of his midfield battles, allowing the hosts to get forward far too easily.

Lucas Paqueta – 7

Unsurprisingly, the silky Brazil ace was the one who got his side going after the break following their miserable first-half with his cool finish early in the second-half.

James Ward-Prowse – 3

Like Phillips, the former Southampton skipper was withdrawn by Moyes at the break after an uncharacteristically poor first-half showing.

Mohammed Kudus – 4

Kudus was not his usual creative self at the London Stadium, with the summer signing kept relatively quiet by the Clarets defenders.

Jarrod Bowen – 5

Bowen was starved of the ball in a really poor opening 45 minutes for the Hammers, with that trend continuing in the second-half in a quiet afternoon for the England ace, although his energy levels never dropped.

Substitutions

Edson Alvarez (on for Phillips, 46′) – 7

Alvarez certainly improved Moyes’s midfield, with the Mexican playing a key role in a fine comeback in East London.

Michail Antonio (on for Ward-Prowse, 46′) – 6

Antonio did his utmost to constantly pressure the away defence, but the Jamaican international failed to find the back of the net once more.

Danny Ings (on for Aguerd, 82′) – 9 (Man of the Match)

Ings found the back of the net twice at the London Stadium despite only being on the match for a matter of minutes, with his second securing the draw after his first was ruled out for an Antonio offside. The super substitute even came close to a winner, but his late strike cannoned off the crossbar.
