West Ham United need to act fast to make Reiss Nelson transfer after new development

West Ham United will likely have significant differences to the team at the start of the 2024/25 season compared to the end of last term.

Changes have already begun to take place at the club with Julen Loepetegui replacing David Moyes and Max Kilman and Luis Guilherme two high-profile transfers.

The Hammers’ attack is another area of their team that needs an uplift. The London-based club were far too over-reliant on both Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus last season.

Which is why for the vast majority of the window, the Hammers have been linked with a plethora of attacking talent.

Arsenal ace Reiss Nelson has been one of the names mentioned with a move to the London Stadium with a fee between £15million and £20million [The Mirror, 19 July] being the reported amount it would require to pry the attacker away from his boyhood club.

However, thanks to a report on 24 July from Fabrizio Romano, it seems that Leicester City have opened talks to acquire Nelson’s services.

West Ham United need to act fast and make an offer for Reiss Nelson

If the Hammers are serious about wanting to bring Nelson to the London Stadium this summer, they will need to act fast.

It’s evident that the club needs attacking reinforcement and there’s arguably not a better candidate out there than the Arsenal academy graduate.

The attacker was in and around Mikel Arteta’s squad for the vast majority of last season and managed to appear 24 times in all competitions.

He can play on either flank and would offer yet another attacking option for Lopetegui.

It’s also highly likely that the club will want to avoid another situation like the saga surrounding Matias Soule who is now likely to join Roma [Gazzetta dello Sport, 24 July, page 16].

The price that Nelson would cost the Hammers is minimal when compared to the amount of talent that they’d be getting.

He’s still just 24 years old and could develop into an even brighter prospect if given the right coaching.

All in all, it seems like a no-brainer for the Hammers to throw their hat in the ring, even if it’s an initial loan with an obligation or option to buy similar to what Leicester are reported to have agreed.
