West Ham United must remain in pursuit of Ben Brereton Diaz after journalist claim

Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz has been a target for West Ham United for some time but no movement has yet been made.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a fantastic 2021-22 campaign for both club and country as he was among the top scorers in the Championship while also netting four goals for Chile.

AS report that there has been no bids at all to prize the Stoke-on-Trent born striker away from Ewood Park and The Sun journalist Alan Nixon provided a reason as to why.

Nixon was asked on Twitter whether Leeds United were in the race to sign Brereton Diaz but he quickly replied with: “Price putting buyers off… just now,” which could suggest that a reduction in the asking price may come later in the window.

There have been contrasting reports regarding the price that the Chilean would be available for with AS stating in the same report that he could leave Lancashire for just £12.6million.

West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh meanwhile believe that it would take around £25million to sign the 23-year-old before the Premier League season begins.

The correct answer may well end up being somewhere in between these two astronomically different price tags but despite the large expenditure required, we need to keep on his trail.

West Ham

Last season was his first real breakthrough after spending time at Nottingham Forest and Stoke City in the championship prior to joining Rovers and he has been revitalised.

Whether his international switch to Chile has suddenly brought the best out of him or if Blackburn themselves found the answer, he is in the form of his life and that is the kind of player you want in your side.

To put it this way, if we don’t at least try to sign him, we will massively regret it next season when he goes on to score against us in heartbreaking fashion.
