West Ham United must make offer for Valentin Castellanos after ‘dream verdict

West Ham United have already made three signings this summer but they are going to need more before the season kicks off in August.

Having sorted issues in goal, defence and central midfield, David Moyes now needs to turn his attention to attack and finding a player to challenge and rotate with Michail Antonio through the middle.

That man could be New York City striker Valentin Castellanos who has been on the Irons’ radar, as reported by 90min, after a brilliant 18 months in front of goal in the MLS which saw him win the golden boot in 2021.

The Argentinian has now dropped a major hint that a move away from the Big Apple is on the horizon as he hopes to make it into the World Cup squad for his country.

“Being young and having the chance to go to another league in Europe, I think it would be a big thing and a dream come true for me,” Castellanos said to TUDN.

“Sometimes you’re not ready or it’s not the right time, but right now I’m at my best. I am enjoying myself and my mentality is different from when I came to the league.

“I think right now it is an opportunity, and it would be very good to continue growing in Europe and continue doing what I have been doing here.”

Given his goal-scoring prowess and all-around game, the 23-year-old is perhaps the ideal candidate for West Ham United and someone who can not only learn from Antonio but then replace him as the 32-year-old nears the end of his career.

As he plays in the MLS too, we would be unlikely to have to pay a premium to sign him but we could face competition from other clubs in this particular race but we have the money necessary, and the European football to offer, to win out.
