West Ham United must get rid of flop Issa Diop amid Lazio interest

West Ham simply have to axe senior defender Issa Diop with his future at the club seemingly non-existent amid major reports.

According to Evening Standard, David Moyes and co are willing to listen to offers for the out of favour 25-year-old.

Furthermore, Italian outlet Citta Celeste has reported that Lazio are interested in signing the Hammers centre-back in the summer transfer window.

Transfermarkt values the Frenchman at £10.8 million but with him still being 25 and his Premier League experience – the Irons can undoubtedly squeeze more money out of potential suitors.

Money that can be used to reinvest back into the squad as the east Londoners look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season amid the risk of him leaving on a free once his contract expires at the end of next season.

Business.

Selling Diop is an absolute no brainer – if the right offer comes in for him. The man-mountain has only played 13 times in the Premier League this season and that would have been a considerably lower number had it not been for serious injuries to the rest of the squads’ centre-backs.

It is a shame because the Irons supporters were raving about him during his first season. the former Toulouse ace was sensational and it looked as if an elite team would come and snatch him away very soon.

Unfortunately, it has all gone downhill for him since then and he is now more of a flop than a signing that will be looked back on as a great one – he showed great potential but never lived up to it.

Diop has played several impressive cameos this season which shows he is still a good player but there doesn’t seem to be room for him at the London Stadium.

At the end of the day, he is the fourth choice and that is with Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna very much coming towards the end of their careers. Once fresh blood is added to the squad, he doesn’t stand a chance.
