West Ham United must finally give Conor Coventry chance to shine v FCSB

After a turbulent start to the new Premier League season, West Ham have the blissful respite of the Europa Conference League this week.

FC Steaua Bucharest will be the visitors to the London Stadium on Thursday as the continental campaign kicks off for real in the group stages and David Moyes should be looking to make several changes to his side.

There are a number of players who could do with a rest wherever possible to ensure that they can properly maintain their attacks on all fronts for as long as possible further down the line.

At the very top of that list should be England international Declan Rice who is vital to everything good that comes from the Irons in most games and with more than enough behind him to beat the Romanian side, he should not be playing a single minute on Thursday.

In his place, Moyes has to finally give a chance to West Ham academy graduate Conor Coventry who has been incredibly patient with the manager despite impressing on loan for two seasons in a row.

He has had to wait on the sidelines while Rice and Tomas Soucek play almost every minute in the league so far and the new arrival of Flynn Downes has made things even harder for the Rush Green star to break into the mix.

If he isn’t played against Bucharest on Thursday then he can consider himself extremely hard done by and you would not throw him under the bus if he voiced his desire to leave.

He can’t keep sitting on the bench every week at this stage in his career and he will be as aware as anybody else about that so if Moyes is not willing to play him against Romanian minnows then he has to get out of the club as soon as possible.
