West Ham United must cash-in on Said Benrahma in January after series of poor performances

West Ham United secured their third consecutive win in the UEFA Conference League when they defeated RSC Anderlecht at the Lotto Park on Thursday, 06 October.

It was Gianluca Scamacca’s 79th-minute strike that proved to be the difference on the night which helped the Hammers sit pretty at the top of Group B with nine points from three matches.

During that match, a lot of players had an impressive outing for the winning side but one player, in particular, had a night to forget and that was Said Benrahma.

Time to let him go

West Ham had a very successful transfer window where they made eight first-team signings but only three of them were of an attacking nature.

One of the players who was heavily linked with a move away from London Stadium was Benrahma where it was reported that David Moyes was open to listening to offers for the 27-year-old [Daily Mail].

At that point, it didn’t make much sense to let an established attacking player leave, that too without bringing in necessary alternatives.

But on Thursday, his performance was a gentle reminder of why Moyes was ready to let him leave in the summer.

To Benrahma’s good luck, he was not playing against one of the big teams in England or in Europe as they would’ve definitely made the Hammers pay for his inability to convert clear-cut chances.

That was not the first time when the former Brentford winger produced such a performance in the season and it is because of this reason, he only has a goal to his name in 517 minutes of first-team football.

Therefore, it is time that Moyes must make a call on the future of Benrahma because the Irons cannot afford to have a player who scores after missing tons of chances, especially when the ultimate goal is to secure a permanent spot in European competitions.
