West Ham United move for Hugo Ekitke could be on the cards with deal ‘being worked on’
West Ham could be lining up a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ektike, who they were keen on in the summer after French journalist Loic Tanzi claimed a solution is being worked on.
The L’Equipe journalist shared via his Twitter account on 28 September that a solution to Ekitike’s situation at PSG is being worked out ahead of the January transfer window.
West Ham were joined by Crystal Palace in their pursuit of Ekitike on deadline day, with potential loan deals being suggested, although the French side would not allow him to leave the club on a short-term basis [Sky Sports, 1 September].
The Hammers should do all they can to pip Crystal Palace to the striker’s signature, as he would be a huge improvement on their current options, despite the early-season form of Michail Antonio.
At just 21 years old, he presents a younger and fresher option than both Antonio and Danny Ings, both of whom are approaching the twilight of their careers. Ekitike’s play style also differs from the current duo, as he is much more comfortable in possession.
Ings’ form when called upon so far this season has been poor, failing to impress against either Backa Topola or Lincoln City when David Moyes saw fit to rotate his team, leaving Antonio as the only reliable striker option. The Frenchman would make this squad significantly stronger.

As PSG are seemingly desperate to get the 21-year-old off their books due to the bust-up on deadline day, a loan deal could now be an avenue for West Ham to explore if they feel this would be in the best interest of all parties for bringing their target to the London Stadium.
In other West Ham news, one BBC pundit has been left baffled by one Moyes record.
