West Ham United identify ideal half-price Max Kilman transfer alternative
West Ham United should forget about a move for Max Kilman amid an update shared by Fabrizio Romano regarding another target.
Romano reported on Friday (28 June) that the Hammers have made a move for Lyon defender Jake O’Brien, who is valued in the region of £15million [The Mirror, printed edition, 23 June, page 73] – less than half the price of Kilman.
Writing on X, the Italian journalist added: “Max Kilman remains strong target but still not easy with Wolves as they ask around £45m.”
And, with Kilman’s valuation proving a big hurdle, pursuing O’Brien offers West Ham a more financially feasible option without compromising on defensive quality.
West Ham face no-brainer in signing Jake O’Brien
West Ham should really rethink their pursuit of Kilman, especially with Wolves demanding a whopping £45m.
While Kilman is undoubtedly a good defender, that kind of price tag seems over the top. Meanwhile, Lyon’s O’Brien is available for half the cost and looks like a fantastic alternative.
O’Brien has already shown his potential at Lyon and now has a couple of caps for the Republic of Ireland.
Signing him would be a smart move, allowing the East London club to use their funds more wisely and strengthen other areas of the team.
Splashing out a fortune on Kilman just doesn’t make sense, particularly when there’s a more affordable and equally capable option on the table.
By going for O’Brien, the Hammers can bolster their defence without breaking the bank, ensuring they maintain financial flexibility for future signings.
It’s a no-brainer: save the cash and go for the talented Irishman.
