West Ham United handed boost in Conor Gallagher pursuit as Mauricio Pochettino blasts Chelsea ‘mess’

West Ham need a Declan Rice replacement in the door sooner rather than later, with the club targeting Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher.

As per Fabrizio Romano (25 July), the Blues have already rejected a £40million bid from the Hammers for the England midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether the East London club will go back in for the talented 23-year-old, who would certainly help fill the gap left by Rice in David Moyes’s side.

He would undoubtedly walk into the Hammers midfield, with regular minutes not exactly guaranteed at Stamford Bridge given the huge volume of players available to Mauricio Pochettino.

That is, however, an issue that the new Chelsea boss is eager to resolve, with the Argentine noting that the club are in danger of creating a “mess” if his “unbalanced” squad is not cut down, as per The Times (27 July).

The West London outfit have already said goodbye to a large number of players this summer, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Edouard Mendy among others all moving on.

Such exits demonstrate the unbelievable numbers that the Blues had at their disposal, with that issue emphasised by the fact that the new man in the dugout wants to cut down his squad further.

A total of seven more players could exit Stamford Bridge between now and the end of the transfer window, with Moyes desperate for one of those players to be Gallagher, with the hope that the midfield ace can make the short trip across London to the Hammers.

In other West Ham news, one highly thought of Hammers player has sealed a London Stadium exit to join an English club on loan.
